Meet the very sweet and charming Allison who won our design prize package aallisont UWA’s most recent annual GMA black tie dinner.

We were honoured to be invited to attend the fabulous event as a new sponsor.

Our prize package, valued at $1200, included a whopper sized (12mm) beautiful Tahitian South Sea pearl and also a sit down with one of our designers to discuss how Allison would want to wear her new pearl and of course the make itself.

Allison decided on a rounded sterling silver bangle and because they’re her favourite we added natural emeralds to her bangle to enhance the pearls blue green colour.

pearl bangleThis is the beautiful result. We’re pleased as punch at how it looks and Allison loves it so much she wants even more made!

Oscars 2015There is always a reason why the Oscars cause a stir of excitement during the awards season. We’re not talking about the show stopping couture gowns, expensive designer shoes or even the glitzy occasion itself, ultimately we had our eyes peeled for the exquisite jewellery being worn on the red carpet. The jewellery tends to be more dazzling, one of a kind and are worth millions, and the Oscars 2015 didn’t disappoint.

Here we have highlighted the best jewels worn on the night.

It consists of 18ct yellow gold, diamonds and blue sapphires gemstones with tassel drop. The zipper is fully functional and can be adjusted and transform into a drop choker. It can also be zipped all the way and worn as a bracelet.

It is luxurious and created using a variety of different pearl sizes for intricate texture. I couldn’t imagine how long it would have taken to create this memorable gown. This dress will surely be exhibited in a museum one day.

1978870_301156020072865_246248017473243936_nLiving in the ‘City of Lights’ Perth and the innate love of its surrounding nature provides an instant source of inspiration for Silver by Kat designer Kathleen Genat, who joins Tayha Design’s quaint gallery of talented West Australian jewellery artists in Mt Lawley. Silver by Kat is a charming and delightful collection of sterling silver jewellery that is thoroughly modern with a romantic edge. Using delicate and creative processes such as detailed etching and printing, Kat creates sentimental snippets of everything around us, particularly the natural beauty of the world. The use of patina and reticulated silver in her jewellery collection is uniquely individual as each piece differs from one another, providing the wearer a truly one of a kind jewellery.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself. When did you first aspire to become a jewellery designer?

My name is Kathleen Genat. I live in the beautiful Perth hills with my two small boys, Winston and Hugo.
Art has been a passion of mine throughout my life, doing T.E.E art, and then many art electives while studying teaching at University. After living for six years in New York, I moved back to Perth, and it was at that point I found my passion for designing sterling silver jewellery.

2. What is your main source of inspiration when designing your jewellery collection?

Being from the hills and surrounded by nature, I find this is my main source of inspiration. I love the texture, movement and shape of the world around us, and I try to incorporate that into my jewellery.

3. What is your signature style?

My signature style is modern with a romantic edge. I am developing unique and wearable pieces that are individual and suggest a story.

4. Provide a little insight into your creative and technical process?

I am constantly thinking of new ideas which develop on paper and from    there I often let the creativity take over. I incorporate nature by roller      printing and photo etching to give depth and uniqueness to my pieces,    and often use the patina process to antique the silver.

 5. Describe the person wearing your jewellery. What type of    person did you have in mind when designing your jewellery?

The wearer of Silver by Kat is confidant, loves to tell a story, has a romantic edge, and a sense of contemporary style. She is not a person who can be pigeonholed, but she appreciates simplicity with depth.

6. What is your motto in life/Your favourite quote?

My motto in life is to stand firm in what I believe and to follow through with my dreams and goals.

“I have decided to stick with love,

hate is too great a burden to bear”

Martin Luther King Jr.

I aspire for my jewellery to be an expression of love, and to bring joy to the wearer.

7. How do you relax when you’re not making jewellery?

When I’m not making jewellery I love to spend time with family and friends, going to the beach and enjoying outdoor activities.

8. What is the best thing about Perth? Any recommendations?

Rottnest Island

Rottnest Island

I have been lucky enough to have travelled widely, and nothing beats Perths climate, beaches and relaxed lifestyle. Rottnest Island is a particular favorite of mine.

9. What is your favourite piece from your own collection? What is your most treasured or significant piece?

My favorite piece would be the bar pendant with the Banksia leaf print. I love the asymmetrical lines contrasted by the organic shape of the leaf.

My most treasured piece would be my ring with the three tiny hearts, which represents myself and my two boys.

211Love is in the air… for jewellery.

In the week leading up to Valentine’s Day we have spent an enjoyable afternoon at Tayha Designs picking out a vast range of stunning jewellery that would certainly be an ideal gift and to make the day even more special for your loved ones. Although traditional Valentine’s Day gifts such as a box of chocolate, stuffy animals and a bloom of flowers seems like an obvious choice, however deep down we all know what women really wants, a symbol to represent longevity, enduring romance and coming straight from the heart. There’s nothing more romantic than receiving a piece of jewellery that has been carefully considered, chosen and beautifully wrapped for the celebration of love.

From traditional heart shapes, simple classics to thoroughly unique pieces, we carefully selected a versatile collection of Valentine’s Day jewellery gift ideas that we would absolutely love to receive, and we’re pretty sure you would to. Each jewellery piece we have selected will be cherished forever, have a unique story to tell and the ability to interpret your own story through the sentimental gift.

Drop a hint by sharing this with your loved ones <3

Silver By Kat

Perth-based jeweller Silver By Kat landed in Tayha Designs only a mere week ago and the girls are already gushing over this handmade sterling silver disc pendant with symbolic two heart motif. The carefree and rustic texture of the disc against the smooth surface of the hearts creates a modern yet meaningful contrast. We could imagine this being worn alone or layered with other pendants.

                                                                                                                  Ted Ellyard

Ted EllyardEnchanting and delicate, this 18ct yellow gold ring by Ted Ellyard moves away from the standardised tulip setting normally found in engagement rings for a literal and almost-bloomed tulip ring. The stigma is a 0.10ct round brilliant cut diamond in a rub-over setting which led us to daydream if only real flowers feature diamonds! This would certainly make a unique and romantic Valentine’s Day gesture.

Gillian Cordiner

It wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without the heart theme would it? We absolutely love these dainty and precious sterling silver enamel hook earrings with a highly unusual texture, alligator print! The red enamel is rich and vibrant, which allows the earrings to stand out from the crowd. The heart drop sits just underneath your lobe as if it’s floating. We’re on cloud nine…

                                                               Claire Townsend

256(1)Claire Townsend used silver and anodised aluminium to create this fashionably large circle flower pendant using detailed etching technique. Instead of flowers this pendant will be a enduring fixture for your heart’s desire. It is elegant yet has an element of playfulness. The long black cord necklet adds a modern touch to the overall pendant.

Taryn Compagnoni

Taryn CompagnoniYou can’t go wrong with pearl jewellery. At all. Pearls has survived the consistent waves of ever-changing and buckling trends that would make even the most seasoned fashionista overwhelmed. Pearl jewellery are modernised, re-imagined and innovative yet maintains its history and classic aura. We love Taryn Compagnoni’s lustrous South Sea white pearl subtly enhanced by two round brilliant diamonds on either side in a beautiful modern setting. A gift to last a lifetime.

                                                         Rei Minohara Starke

rei minohara starkeThis stunning ring is inspired by the quiet beauty of Australia’s distinctive nature and drawn from Perth Jeweller Rei Minohara Starke’s own memories, stories and feelings. However, this awe-inspiring ring also tells the story of the person who wears it. The ring is handmade in sterling silver and casted using a golden wattle branch, a floral emblem of Australia. We adore the large quartz stone with resin surrounds to create a wearable version of a single stem of rose. This ring is so versatile it can also be worn as a pendant. Ultimately, two gifts in one!

259Lastly, a hidden treasure! Made in 18ct yellow gold and Mouchite stone the pendant depicts a lit candle flame or a yellow rose bud, we are instantly mesmerised by it.

These unique selection are what we secretly crave from our loved ones however, we are completely spoiled for choice with endless Valentine’s Day gift ideas at Tayha Designs so do visit our gallery during your free time and we can assist you in choosing your ideal gift that will be treasured forever.
