Gold Prices Are Sky High - But Here’s How You Can Still Shine

(And How to Keep Shining Without Breaking the Bank)

By a jewellery designer who totally gets it.

If you’ve been eyeing a new piece of jewellery lately and wondering why everything gold seems to have jumped in price - trust me, you’re not imagining it. As someone who works with precious metals every day, I’ve definitely noticed the pinch too.

So, What’s Going On With Gold?

Gold prices have soared over the past year, hitting record highs in 2024 and continuing to climb in 2025. A lot of it comes down to global uncertainty - when things feel shaky (hello interest rate hikes, inflation, and geopolitical drama), investors tend to run to “safe haven” assets like gold. The result? Demand goes up, and so does the price.

To give you some perspective, back in 2015, the price of gold was hovering around AUD $1,400 per ounce. As of now, it’s sitting at well over AUD $4,800 per ounce - more than triple in just a decade. That’s a massive shift and it has a real impact on jewellery design and pricing.

But That Doesn’t Mean You Have to Miss Out

Here’s the good news: you can still own beautiful, meaningful gold jewellery without spending a small fortune. One of my favourite ways to create stunning, affordable pieces is by recycling and redesigning old or broken jewellery.

Let’s be honest - we all have a few forgotten treasures tucked away in the back of a drawer. Maybe it's a broken chain, an earring missing its mate, or a ring that’s just not your style anymore. Rather than letting them collect dust, we can transform them into something you’ll actually wear and love.

Redesigning gives your jewellery a second life - and it's budget-friendly, eco-conscious and super sentimental. I work closely with my clients to take what they already have and turn it into something fresh and fabulous, tailored just for them.

The Bottom Line?

Gold may be expensive right now, but that doesn’t mean beauty and meaning have to be out of reach. Whether you’re after a custom piece for a special occasion or just want to refresh your collection, recycling your old gold is a smart and stylish way to go.
